The Apple iPhone 14 is a potent smartphone with a lightning-quick processor, a gorgeous screen, and the greatest cameras. Although that is inferior to the iPhone 14 Pro, you still save $200. This durable, albeit uninteresting, iPhone may be the one for you if you’re not seeking a large screen on a cheap (check out the new iPhone 14 Plus for that). It also has a few pretty cool next-generation features that you might never use.
Phone 14 Quick review

Even though the design, screen, and processor of the new iPhone 14 are from last year, Apple’s new iPhone 14 still looks like a really fantastic smartphone when seen separately from the new iPhone 14 Pro.
Although the iPhone 14 shares many similarities with the iPhone 13, it has many internal changes that promise to enhance the user experience.
The two rear cameras on the phone, a 12MP and a 12MP ultra-wide have new sensors, and the 12MP TrueDepth camera can now focus and absorb more light. Apple’s new Photonic Engine supports all lenses (“photonic” refers to the control of photons or light particles – read more about this in our explanation of the iPhone 14 camera). Practically speaking, this is a rearranging of Apple’s image processing pipeline, which now processes uncompressed photos using the Deep Fusion neural engine (instead of compressed ones, as it used to be).
There is no zoom or a 48-megapixel sensor with 4-pixel binning to be found here. You must upgrade to an iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max in order to do this.
If you’re not a fan of that notch, there is still a fantastic Super Retina XDR OLED screen available, but you might want to choose the 14 Pro or Pro Max instead, which have Apple’s outstanding new Dynamic Island coupled with an adaptive refresh rate and an always-on display.
Additionally, Apple decided to stick with the Apple silicon from the previous year for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. Naturally, the A15 Bionic chip used in the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini from a year ago has been replaced. This A15 Bionic has a quintuple-core GPU rather than a quad-core one. It should deliver better performance than the chip in the iPhone 13 because it is effectively the same chip that was in the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max from a year ago.
Even though they are difficult to test, some interesting new capabilities are available, such as crash detection, which lets your phone notify emergency services and important contacts if you are involved in a car accident. Similarly, the iPhone 14 may now contact emergency agencies through satellite. It’s encouraging to note that even Apple’s entry-level iPhone 14 gets this innovative feature, which is a first for the industry.
There are other significant internal improvements as well, most notably a new heat dissipation system that will improve the phone’s ability to handle the heat and improve performance (this phone has better battery life than the iPhone 13). In addition, Apple asserts that this iPhone is more straightforward to fix than earlier versions since, among other things, the rear glass may now be replaced without having to replace the entire device.

Apple iPhone 14 Price and Availability

- 128GB: ₹78,740.
- 256GB: ₹86,990
- 512GB: ₹108,780
On September 7, 2022, Apple unveiled the whole iPhone 14 line, including the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The iPhone 14 went up for pre-order on September 9 and will be available starting on September 16. The 128GB variant costs ₹78,740, but you can upgrade to 512GB of storage.
There are no alternatives for more RAM than the base 6GB, which is greater than the base iPhone 13’s 4GB, but unlike other Android phones.
Apple iPhone 14 Design

- The design is almost identical to the iPhone 13.
- No SIM card slot (US only)
- Same notched Super Retina XDR display
The 6.1-inch iPhone 14 is essentially similar to the iPhone 13 aside from the new colors (we tested a tasteful pale blue variant). The screen, stereo speaker grilles, Lightning port, and even its metal frame all have the same appearance. However, there are a few minor structural variations.
It is only slightly thicker than the iPhone 13 at 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.8mm. It’s also two grams lighter than the last phone, which we assume is due to the new thermal architecture inside the device. The official iPhone 13 MagSafe case fits the iPhone 14 very well, but the iPhone 14’s dual-lens camera array is significantly larger, despite the similarities in the chassis (as are the lenses themselves).
The ceramic screen covering the display is made of the same materials, and the iPhone 13’s dust and water resistance also apply. Naturally, we tested the durability of our iPhone 14 by spraying it with water. It was magnificent, and maybe he was taking a break from the heat of New York.
Apple iPhone 14 Display

- Familiar 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR
- Still has a high-quality OLED display
- No adaptive refresh or always-on functionality
- The notch persists
The iPhone 14 Super Retina XDR display’s resolution is the same as the iPhone 13 at 2532 x 1170, 460 PPI. This fairly old design still features the notch that was eliminated from the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. It has an upgraded TrueDepth camera (still 12MP, but supplemented by a better light-gathering sensor and capable of focussing), an IR sensor, a flood light, and, most significantly, a top speaker (another speaker at the bottom of the phone). Since it seems unlikely that the notch will survive the anticipated iPhone 15 next year, this is likely the final time we hear praise for it.
While it has a wide color, brilliant (up to 1200 nits), and OLED-powered inky black (with a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1) display, it doesn’t necessarily reflect Apple’s most recent designs. display engineering. Not even 120Hz ProMotion, which debuted on 2021 Pro models, has an adaptive refresh rate. only 60 Hz. When the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max provide adjustable refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz, it can be difficult to swallow. Additionally, for increased power economy, both phones offer a new always-on display mode that can slow down to 1Hz. Once more, you pay more for this.
Apple iPhone 14 Cameras

- New Action mode
- New sensors across the board
- Familiar 12MP main + ultrawide on the back
- Photonic Engine further improves image quality
There are only two rear cameras on the iPhone 14:
- 12 MP (26mm, f/1.5) primary
- 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (12mm, f/2.4, 120-degree field of view)
Better sensors and overall low light performance than their predecessors make these cameras good ones. Now that the front camera, which is also 12 MP, has autofocus, taking group selfies should be simpler.
The updated image processing pipeline helps all cameras. In order to work with uncompressed images, the Photonic Engine prioritizes Deep Fusion neural image processing earlier than before.
Although we also tried the iPhone 14 Pro, we found that it lacked optical zoom and macro capabilities, despite having good photography. However, the majority of users should be content with this level of photographic ability and good-quality output.
This model, like the other iPhone 14 models, can record videos in up to 4K resolution, and Cinematic Mode now supports 4K at 30 frames per second.
The active mode, which is completely new, may be used by selecting the running man icon in the viewfinder of the camera app’s top right corner. A surprising amount of judder in action videos can be eliminated with this technique. The iPhone 14 does not have a new stabilizer; rather, Apple employs overscan and enhanced rotation recognition, which is a fancy way of stating that it edits video rapidly and on the fly to ensure that the center, which is typically the subject, stays smoothly in the frame. Although part of the video data is lost during processing (leading to frame cropping), the end result is smooth, like a GoPro. Although I’m not sure how helpful this is, if you enjoy action movies, this could be a blessing.
Apple iPhone 14 Audio

Apple has at least been reliable when it comes to audio. The four iPhone 14 variants all feature stereo speakers that can enable surround sound and can play music loudly (if desired). Spatial sound gives a sort of surround sound effect to movies and music that support it. In addition to Apple Music’s extensive spatial audio playlist, there are movies on Netflix, Amazon, and other streaming services that you may watch to take advantage of this functionality. The iPhone 14 produced excellent audio for everything we played.
Apple iPhone 14 Performance

- A new heat dissipation system gives the processor more breathing room
- Uses the iPhone 13 Pro’s A15 Bionic chip
- Good performance for the price
Oh, that mobile processor from last year! To begin with, we must establish that the A15 Bionic is safe. Asphalt: Legends and PUBG operate easily on it because it is a potent chip that routinely exceeds the best Qualcomm has to offer and has a lot of headroom. With the speedier, more effective A16 Bionic processor found in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, you can edit 4K films, browse the web, and do whatever you want. The true difference will probably only become obvious after years of use, though.
Bringing the upgraded A15 chip from the iPhone 13 Pro to the iPhone 14 was a wise move by Apple. This is a clever approach to saving money that will appeal to everyone.
The redesigned internal design of the A15 Bionic, which is in the upcoming iPhone 14, improves heat dissipation. A cooler chip should also operate more effectively, despite what Apple claims to help with maintainability.
Although this iPhone only has marginal battery life, it claims greater battery life (20 hours of video streaming vs to 19 hours for the iPhone 13) even though benchmarks roughly matched the A15 Bionic we tested in the iPhone 13 Pro. work. large battery; indicating that Apple’s work on the cooling system is to blame for this improved efficiency.
Apple iPhone 14 Esim and Satellite Connectivity

The entire iPhone 14 range in the US now uses eSIM technology to connect you to a cellular network instead of having a SIM card port. Although Apple has already given our phone a test phone number, in our experience, setting up the iPhone 14 was simple. You can accomplish it electronically without your carrier’s assistance if you wish to move your physical SIM information from your old iPhone to your new one. When these new SIM-free iPhones are in the hands of customers, we’ll see how smoothly everything functions.
The satellite-based emergency SOS capability is another fascinating new networking option. Apple is collaborating with low-Earth orbiting Globalstar satellites to add an extra layer of emergency support. We haven’t been able to test it, but we have observed it in use at Apple’s workplace in Cupertino, California.
We ascended a hill where Wi-Fi and mobile service were purposefully disabled. We observed a little “SOS” icon and a satellite icon in the top right corner of the display on the iPhone 14 Pro utilized for the demo (we assume the system functions the same on the iPhone 14). Please be aware that unless you are outside and can see clear skies, none of these icons will appear.
The iPhone 14 will inquire if you want to try sending an emergency text via satellite if you call 911 (in the US) in this circumstance. In order to connect to the closest satellite, the on-screen emergency help then provides a visual indication indicating which direction you should turn. A series of questions are then posed to you, and the system can send the answers in a compressed text format to Apple’s relay center, which subsequently contacts emergency personnel.
The system will advise you to reconnect facing the proper direction if the satellite moves out of range during the conversation.
While emergency situations are the main purpose of satellite communications, you can also utilize the system to let people know, for instance, by using Find My, that you’ve successfully reached the summit of Everest or Snowdon.
Apple iPhone 14 Battery

- Wireless charging + MagSafe
- Enough juice for a busy day
- Buy your own adapter
The iPhone 14 is capable of 20 hours of video playing, 16 hours of streaming video, and 80 hours of audio playback, as I have indicated. On a single charge, the battery lasted longer than a full day. The Lightning-to-USB-C charging cable and no charger are included with the iPhone 14.
A 20W Apple charger will cost a bit more, but it will charge your device up to 50% faster than a 5W converter. Additionally, Qi wireless charging and MagSafe are compatible with the phone.
Apple iPhone 14 Software
- Filled with new features
- All iPhone 14 models ship with iOS 16
- Custom lock screens, unending texts, and cleaner notifications are highlights
Apple provides iOS 16 with every iPhone 14 model. This is a much-needed upgrade that brings about some of the biggest platform changes in recent memory.
One of the highlights is the new lock screen. You receive many screens, each with its own focus mode, as opposed to a single static screen.
With the use of potent imaging technologies, you can use any image as your lock screen, such as having a portion of a person’s skull protrude from beneath the revised time indicator. For an even more customized experience, you can even install widgets (different for each lock screen).

Other intriguing features include multi-stop routes in Maps, editable and extractable texts, live text in films, and more.
We believe that any iPhone running on this OS update will benefit from it.
The score for software: 4.5/5
The iPhone 14 is currently Apple’s lowest and lightest model. Compared to the comparably sized iPhone 14 Pro, which starts at $899, it weighs more than 30 grams less. In order to save $200, it may seem like a significant trade-off to have an older screen technology, a notch, and only two rear cameras, but for some people, the Pro may be overkill.
The iPhone 14 is Apple’s “good enough,” which is actually still rather impressive. Even while new owners might stare at iPhone 14 Pro users flaunting their always-on displays and their dynamic islands, this is unlikely to disappoint the majority of users.
