Wicked City (1987)
The 1987 adult-animated dark fantasy action horror movie Wicked City was made in Japan by Video Art and Madhouse for Japan Home Video. Yoshiaki Kawajiri made his solo directorial debut with this movie, which was based on Hideyuki Kikuchi’s Black Guard, the first book in the Wicked City series. Yoshiaki Kawajiri also acted as the film’s character designer, storyboard artist, animation director, and key animator.
Mezzo Forte (2000– )
Yasuomi Umetsu’s 2000 original video animation (OVA), Mezzo Forte, was edited into an anime film and published on DVD the same year in the United States. The OVA, which centers on a young woman named Mikura Suzuki and her mercenary company, the Danger Service Agency (D.S.A. ), is a spiritual sequel to Umetsu’s Kite because both films share the same elements, including a highly trained female protagonist, a darkly comedic tone, extremely violent and expertly directed over-the-top action sequences, and the graphic sex scenes, which are only present in the uncut version. Mezzo Forte occurs after Kite’s events, though not exactly.
Munemoshune no musume tachi (2008)
A six-episode Japanese anime television series called Munemoshune no Musumetachi, popularly known as RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne, was created by Xebec and Genco. [2] The animation was created to mark the AT-X network’s tenth anniversary, where it first debuted. [3] In North America, Funimation obtained the series’ license. The immortal private eye Rin Asougi is the center of the murder-and-action-filled story, which is set in both contemporary and near-future Tokyo. Additionally, a light book and a manga adaptation were released.
Ikki Tousen (2003– )
Yuji Shiozaki is the author and illustrator of the Japanese manga series Ikki Tousen, popularly known as Battle Vixens in North America. The series, which is loosely inspired by the classic Chinese epic Romance of the Three Kingdoms from the 14th century, centers on a full-scale turf war in the Kant region of Japan between fighters known as Tshi (, literally “fighting soldiers”) from seven schools. Hakufu Sonsaku, a warrior who transfers to Nanyo Academy, one of the seven schools engaged in the turf war, is the main character of the novel.
